About the TGA Format
TGA (Truevision TGA, also known as TARGA) is a raster graphics format created by Truevision Inc. in 1984. It supports 8, 15, 16, 24, and 32-bit colour depths, including an alpha channel for transparency. TGA is widely used in the video game industry, 3D rendering, and animation pipelines because it preserves full image quality without lossy compression. Many game engines and graphics tools natively support TGA for textures and sprite sheets. The format also supports simple run-length encoding (RLE) compression to reduce file size while remaining lossless.
