Convert files offline, with no installer to download
Open a converter once while you are online. After that it opens and converts without a connection: on a plane, in a basement or on a data plan you want to save.
Open a converterHow offline conversion works
WebConverter converts on your device, so the only thing it needs from the internet is the page and its converter code. The first time you open a tool, your browser saves both. The next time you open that tool, it loads from your device.
Only tools you have opened at least once are saved. A tool you have never opened shows an offline notice, and that notice lists the pages your device can open.
Which tools work offline
| Tool | Offline after one visit | How we checked |
|---|---|---|
| Image converters (PNG, JPEG, WebP and more) | Yes | Automated test: open the WebP to PNG converter online, cut the network, reload, convert a WebP file. |
| Audio converters (video to MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC) | Yes | Automated test: open the video to MP3 page online, cut the network, reload, convert a WAV file to MP3. |
| Video, PDF, documents, speech to text | Not tested | These tools load larger engines. We have not tested them offline. Open the one you need online, then try it with the network off before you rely on it. |
Install it, or skip the install
You do not have to install anything. A saved tool also works in a normal browser tab. Installing adds an icon to your desktop or home screen, so the next job starts one tap away.
- Open the converter you need while you are online and convert one file.
- After that first conversion, WebConverter offers to install the app when your browser allows it (Chrome and Edge do). Choose Install app.
- On iPhone and iPad, tap Share in Safari, then Add to Home Screen.
Try it with the network off
- Open the WebP to PNG converter and convert one file.
- Switch on airplane mode, or turn off Wi-Fi.
- Reload the page and drop a file. It opens from your device and converts as before.
Compared with a desktop converter
A desktop converter needs an installer and updates through its own channel. WebConverter loads in the browser you already have, asks for no account, and fetches the latest page whenever you are online.

No. A tool you have opened once also works offline in a normal browser tab. Installing only adds an icon to your desktop or home screen.
Is my file uploaded when I am online?
No. The conversion runs on your device whether you are online or offline. You can confirm it in your browser’s Network tab while you convert.
What happens when I am back online?
The next time you open a tool online, WebConverter loads the latest version of the page and refreshes the saved copy.
Is WebConverter open source?
No. WebConverter is free to use, but it is not open source. The licenses page lists the open-source components it builds on.
